Editorial Policy

Beginner Shed Guide aims to help first-time shed builders make informed decisions about planning, designs, materials and construction.

This policy explains the standards we aim to follow when preparing and updating our content.

Who We Write For

We write primarily for people who are new to shed building and want clear, practical explanations.

Our content focuses on questions such as choosing a suitable size, understanding a materials list, comparing foundation options and organizing a project budget.

We primarily use US terminology, feet and inches, and US dollars where relevant. Costs, products and building requirements vary by location.

Research and Sources

We aim to use sources appropriate to the topic, including:

  • Manufacturer documentation for product specifications and installation requirements.
  • Relevant government or local-authority information for building requirements.
  • Recognized technical resources for materials and construction principles.
  • Product sellers’ published information for their advertised features and purchase terms.

Sources should support the particular information being discussed. A seller’s description establishes what the seller advertises; it does not independently prove product quality or performance.

Where useful, articles include a resources section so readers can explore the underlying information.

Practical, Understandable Explanations

Our articles should help readers understand the decisions behind a project, rather than simply list options.

We aim to explain unfamiliar terms, describe meaningful trade-offs and use practical examples. Examples may illustrate issues such as equipment clearance, door placement, storage access or budgeting.

Hypothetical examples are not presented as accounts of completed projects. Estimates should include relevant assumptions and should not be treated as quotations for a reader’s own build.

We do not consider article length a substitute for usefulness.

Experience, Reviews and Product Claims

We do not claim personal building experience, product ownership or hands-on testing unless that experience is documented and described in the article.

Product coverage should make clear whether it is based on:

  • Publicly available product information.
  • Inspection of a sample or demonstration.
  • Direct access to the product.
  • Documented hands-on use.

A review based on published information must not imply that the complete product has been tested.

We aim to discuss relevant limitations alongside potential benefits. We do not invent testimonials, customer results, professional credentials or product ratings.

Product prices, features, availability and purchase terms can change. Readers should verify the current details with the seller before buying.

Use of AI and Editorial Tools

AI-assisted tools may be used to support research organization, outlines, drafting and editing.

Regardless of how a draft is produced, our standard is that factual claims, links and technical details should be checked before publication. AI-generated wording is not itself a source of evidence.

We do not use these tools to fabricate personal experience, testing results or customer stories.

Images and Illustrations

Images should help explain the subject and accurately represent their purpose.

Conceptual illustrations or AI-generated images should not be presented as photographs of a shed we built or a product we tested. Diagrams that are not construction drawings should not be treated as build-ready plans.

Photographs and other third-party materials should be used with appropriate permission or licensing.

Affiliate Relationships

Some content includes affiliate links. If a reader purchases through one of these links, Beginner Shed Guide may receive a commission at no additional cost to the reader.

Affiliate relationships should be disclosed clearly. A commission does not justify unsupported claims, guaranteed results or hiding a relevant product limitation.

Our articles should provide useful information even when a reader does not purchase the featured product.

For more information, read our Affiliate Disclosure.

Construction Information and Its Limits

Our content provides general educational information. It is not site-specific engineering advice or confirmation that a project meets local requirements.

Structural dimensions, foundation requirements, connections and load capacities depend on the design and site conditions. We should not present an example as a specification that applies to every shed.

Readers should use suitable, verified plans, follow manufacturer instructions and obtain qualified advice where needed.

See our Building Disclaimer for further information.

Updates and Corrections

Content may need updating when source information changes, a product offer is revised or an error is identified.

We aim to correct material inaccuracies when they are brought to our attention and verified. A publication or update date should not imply that every linked product or external source remains unchanged.

We do not guarantee a fixed review schedule for every article.

If you believe something needs correcting, please send:

  • The page address.
  • The relevant statement or section.
  • An explanation of the concern.
  • A supporting source, if available.
